The Cayman Islands is an easy decision when it comes to choosing your perfect Caribbean island on which to buy real estate there after the narrowing down process may be a little harder! The first step will be to decide which of the three Cayman Islands you wish to house your Caribbean getaway whether that is Grand Cayman, Little Cayman or Cayman Brac.
Each of the three Cayman Islands has a distinct personality; Grand Cayman the largest of the three islands is approximately seventy-six square miles and is home to the greater part of the Cayman Islands population (around fifty two thousand) as well as the capital George Town. Grand Cayman’s success has been primarily built as a world-class financial centre and of course on Caribbean tourism. Grand Cayman has many beautiful beaches the most famous of which is Seven Mile Beach one of the finest stretches of sand in the Caribbean.Seven Mile Beach has seen the greatest level of development in Grand Cayman and is home to numerous condo complexes as well as luxury beach resorts such as the Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman and the world renown Caribbean Club. Grand Cayman is known as the culinary capital of the Caribbean and is home to a large number of world class restaurants and a wide variety of cuisine styles. Camana Bay is master planned “New Urbanism” developed and unrivalled in all the Caribbean it provides a diverse and walkable mix of commercial, retail, resort, entertainment and residential opportunities.
Where to buy in Grand Cayman? can probably be more easily answered by first answering the question what? For example if you have decided on a beach front condo then this will lead you in a different direction than if you desire a canal front house and the requirements of a resident buyer will vary from those buying a vacation home and looking for a rental income component. Grand Cayman can be roughly broken down into the following areas below:
West Bay is well-served with a variety of amenities which mean you don’t have to drive all the way to George Town to shop, eat or relax. Supermarkets and other stores and excellent restaurants are located throughout the district. Some of the most popular include Calypso Grill and Morgan’s Harbour, both perched right on the water’s edge, as well as the high class Ristorante Pappagallo, an Italian restaurant of distinction situated within its own tranquil bird sanctuary.
West Bay has its own Public Beach for recreation as well as some of the Island’s most exciting and frequently-visited tourist attractions. The Cayman Islands Turtle Farm is unlike any other establishment in the world, nurturing the development of turtles and welcoming visitors with its wide selection of amenities, including a fabulous lagoon for safe swimming, complete with its own waterfall, a predator reef with sharks on view and a nature trail and aviary. All this is quite apart from the plentiful tanks full of turtles in various states of growth that can be observed and sometimes even petted.
Dolphin Discovery is a new facility which lets visitors get up close and personal with dolphins, enabling guests to actually swim with these intelligent and beautiful mammals, a once-in-a-lifetime treat.
The Cayman Islands Motor Museum is another spectacular and unique attraction to the Cayman Islands and is located just a few minutes from The Turtle Farm. Owned by a Cayman resident who happens to be an avid car collector, the Motor Museum displays 80 vehicles which begin with the very first automobile ever produced, an 1886 Benz. An exact model of the first vehicle ever to be driven in the Cayman Islands, a 1905 Cadillac is also on display, as is the real-life Batmobile!
The community in West Bay plays an integral part in the tourism offering of the Cayman Islands as a whole and is an extremely important district to the Islands.
Little Cayman is by far the smallest of the three Cayman Islands but what it lacks in size it certainly makes up for in sheer natural beauty. It exudes a quintessential laid back Caribbean island feel but also offers a high level of infrastructure and technical connectivity. It is located approximately sixty eight miles north east of Grand Cayman, is about ten square miles and has a population of around two hundred and fifty most of which have some connection to tourism and in particular the world class scuba diving Little Cayman has to offer. The real estate in Little Cayman is mainly made up of beach front houses but also includes beach front condos.
Cayman Brac, thus named for the impressive bluff running along its centre offers a rugged beauty unmatched by Grand Cayman or Little Cayman. It lies in the Caribbean Sea approximately eighty one miles north east of Grand Cayman and just five miles off the south east coast of Little Cayman. It has an area of approximately fourteen square miles and a population of around two thousand. There are a few sandy beaches but most of the coast line is also more rugged and stony, Cayman Brac offers excellent scuba diving, hiking trails, rock climbing and caves for exploration. The real estate market in Cayman Brac is made up of variety of residential homes some on the water others on the bluff, there are also a few condo complexes.
