Surf Wave
Searching and waiting for the perfect wave in the Cayman Islands used to be an unrewarding practice for many water sport enthusiasts. Surfers longing for waves in Grand Cayman can end their waiting and take part in the amazing experience of riding under and over an exhilarating stream of water. The Black Pearl has recently introduced the Waveloch Surf Machine, which produces a self-contained standing wave generated by a continuous 16,000 gallon per minute (GPM) flow of water. This machine uses fresh filtered water and offers riders 2,624 sq. feet of riding surface area. This waveloch machine is the only one of its kind in the world with 11 foot waves which is one foot higher than offered by the Waveloch machine located in South Africa. For those who prefer to watch, which can be equally as entertaining, a viewing area is provided to watch these extreme sport fanatics attempt to stay on the wave. It's a breathtaking experience that combines balance, strength, skill and determination to create an adrenaline-pumping experience the rider is guaranteed not to forget. The Black Pearl Surf Park provides all necessary equipment and lessons for all levels for those attempting this surfing fantasy.
Skate Park
Skillfully designed by renowned Skate Park designer, Michael McIntyre of Site Design Group, the Black Pearl Skate Park includes 62,000 sq. feet of concrete bowls, ramps, rails, half and quarter pipes. Only one word can truly describe this premier location: "Phenomenal"! It is the world's second largest outdoor concrete park and features expert, intermediate and beginner courses. Ample lighting and constant supervision around the park ensures a safe environment for day and night skating, making it a secure and fun place for kids at all times. Skateboards and protective gear are available for rent, and for sale, at the Black Pearl Board Shop. With skateboarding and in-line skating lessons offered at all levels, one can learn from instructors trained by industry experts. Skateboard camps are offered in the summer and winter months and, visits from pros such as Aaron Suski, Rune Glifberg, Mark Appleyard, Bam Margera and Tony Hawk, to name a few, are often a highlight for many onlookers. Certain anticipated projects include an annual world-class competition to be held at the Black Pearl and it is expected that the Cayman Islands' Skate Park at Grand Harbour will become a premier venue for certain international events.
