Inhabited for over two hundred years, West Bay has retained its charm. The earliest settlers made their homes here on some of Cayman's best, secluded beaches. Mixed with a lush tropical blanket of trees and flowers, traditional old seafarers' homes dating from the early 1900s are often found in the same proximity as modern million dollar homes. Some of Cayman's more atmospheric restaurants such as Papagallo, the Cracked Conch and the Calypso Grill are located here and all three have stunning views. One and a half million year old iron shore forms devilishly jagged flame- like images in the area of Hell, where the local post office stamps letters with its famous post mark. The Turtle Farm on Boatswain Bay, horseback riding near Barkers Beach Park, windsurfing, kite boarding and underwater diving offer some interesting attractions.
Access by boat to North Sound and the famous dive sites such as Stingray City and Hammerhead Wall can be found from Morgan's Harbour Marina, otherwise Divetech and Cobalt Coast resorts welcome divers.
For a true Caribbean feel overflowing with local character, and most affordable to high end pricing, you can enjoy a varied coastline with views south onto Seven Mile Beach, northwards to open ocean and eastward over North Sound towards Cayman Kai. There are several short-term rental areas along Barker's Beach and Boggy Sand Road, mixed with upscale homes. 'The Shores' is also an exclusive residential area. West Bay has something for everyone.
